Food Forward SA

We made a donation to assist Food Forward South Africa, a national foodbank working to rescue food in the supply chain from going to landfill and redistributes it to beneficiary organisations that feed the hungry.

We supported their Mobile Rural Depo initiative in buying a refridgerated trailer that serves their beneficiaries in Limpopo and Mpumalanga via Johannesburg, reaching 21 beneficiary organisations. They were able get a discount on the vehicle and use part of the funds to unlock 32 127 meals.

As an organisation they have been able to provide 20 million meals by September 2020 and they are growing in impact, gaining support from farmers and expanding into food processing raw ingredients.

Afrika Tikkun

This NPO based in Johannesburg aims to support the youth from cradle to career. They provide children and staff with between one to three meals a day at their Braamfontein and Diepkloof branches. Lancaster Foundation supported them in purchasing two bakkies that are used for purchasing and delivery of food for all these meals

Cotlands

Working with the South African Department of Health, Cotlands set up mobile toy libraries which were to be attached to mobile health clinics. As the clinics would go to rural communities to offer immunisations and health checks, children would have the opportunity to play. Play is vital for cognitive development in children. Between ages 0-2 years old, the cognitive foundation for learning throughout one’s life is set. Lancaster Foundation funded one mobile toy library. However due to COVID, the mobile toy facilities have been paused until further notice.
